Stock-Based Compensation. Pursuant to the provisions of Financial Accounting Standards Board (“ FASB”) Accounting Standards Codification (“ ASC”) 718-10, “ Compensation – Stock Compensation,” which establishes accounting for equity instruments exchanged for employee service, management utilizes the Black-Scholes option pricing model to estimate the fair value of employee stock option awards at the date of grant, which requires the input of highly subjective assumptions, including expected volatility and expected life. All in all, it was worth the price we paid because the artist was phenominal - I just wish the venue had been, too.The accompanying unaudited interim financial statements of Jammin Java Corp. While I can understand that Jammin Java wants to keep their ticket prices low - and they are lauded for that - sitting on hard plastic for nearly five hours is not my idea of a good time. With shifting of seats, those aisles become non-existent and getting around to and from your seat during breaks is a hop-scotch game. And they are all crammed together with barely a small aisle in between. That's where the disappointment comes in - the seating. The entry area is relatively small with a few tables and stools at the bar, with a curtain pulled so you can't enter the back room seating/music area until designated curtain time. The location is easy to find but depending on other business traffic in the shopping mall, parking may be a bit of a challenge. The service staff are all friendly and the bartenders are quick. This is primarily a review about Jammin Java as a music venue. I can’t shed any light on Jammin Java’s daytime identity as a coffee house and family hangout, though I suspect it might be a cool place to enjoy a cup of coffee and read. Beers were reasonable ($5), the service friendly, the funky atmosphere a refreshing change for Northern Virginia. I’d advise grabbing an early dinner elsewhere before going to Jammin Java for a show. (Which is what I did.) The food - a mozzarella salad and a roast beef sandwich in my case - proved to be. You could also eat in the bar area, standing or taking a stool along the wall and hoping that you could get a decent seat for the show after you finished eating. Other than a small section of tables - all taken 45-60 minutes before the show - the hall was given over to folding chairs, not conducive to balancing a salad plate and a drink. But at least on the night I visited, Jammin Java wasn’t really set up for dining. As a music venue, the place is great - an intimate atmosphere and decent acoustics. My conclusion based on this experience: Go to Jammin Java for the music, not for dinner. Visited Jammin Java for dinner and a performance by troubadour Darrell Scott (and opener Grace Pettis).
